Weight Loss Challenge: Live in Your Strengths

By Carol Solomon Has anyone noticed how easy it is to live in our (perceived) limitations and even more dangerously, to let ourselves be defined by them? Last week, when I sent out my newsletter, I got 6 emails almost immediately thanking me for the information and letting me know how much my newsletter is appreciated (ahhh . . . the power of the internet). I also got 1 email asking to be taken off my mailing list :( . Now, my thoughts immediately went to the 1 person who didnt want to be on the list. Since I am used to this phenomenon, I quickly reminded myself of the 16,000+ wonderful subscribers (thats you) who choose to receive my writing and sometimes even write to me in gratitude (Thank you – I read and appreciate each letter :-) . If I have 6 Coaching sessions in a day and 5 are life changing and 1 doesnt seem to go anywhere (for whatever reason), what do I usually think about? Of course . . . the 1 session that DIDNT go well. The same is true for eating. If you have 5 good days and then you have 1 bad day, what do you do? What do you focus on? Who beats you up? Its like the 5 good days didnt even existthey are completely erased by the 1 day that didnt go the way you would have liked. This kind of thinking is what sabotages you and prevents you from getting back on track. It is easy to go into a downward spiral when you focus on the wrong thing. It is much more dangerous when our THINKING gets out of control, than when our eating gets out of control. If our eating gets out of control, there are opportunities to get back on track the very next minute, the next meal or even the next day. It is much more difficult to do that if your thinking spirals out of control as well. If you manage your thinking well, you can minimize any damage done with your eating. YOUR THINKING (combined with your healthy routine) is what can keep you on track and get you back on track when you lose your way. Most people, by the way, get off track FREQUENTLY and continually boot themselves back on the path. BEWARE of generalizations! Lets say you eat more that you planned at a party (and you are PLANNING, right?). Dont make a broad generalization like thats it I have blown it I will never be able to lose weight . . . I might as well . . . (you know the rest)! Instead, say something kinder to yourself like OK there were foods here that I hadnt planned on . . . or . . . I guess I got a little carried away tonight . . . I will get right back on track tomorrow! LISTEN to what you are saying to yourself and dont beat yourself up. Your strength lies in the power to change what you think and what you say to yourself. No one can do that but you. Heres to power thinking! How to Get Abs – 3 Stellar Six Pack Secrets

By Tom Gifford Everyone nowadays wants to know how to get abs. The problem is, most people make some major mistakes in the process of trying to figure out how to get abs. This article will show you what the 3 major mistakes are and how to avoid them. 3 Major Mistakes People Makes When Trying to Figure out How to Get Abs MISTAKE #1: Doing hundreds of crunches. When most people try to learn how to get abs, they first thing they think of is doing hundreds of crunches everyday. The idea behind this is that if you want to get abs, you work the muscle underneath the fat. The problem with this approach is that it is based upon a false myth known as “spot reduction”. This refers to what was just mentioned about losing fat by working the muscle underneath it. Unfortunately, spot reduction is not a great way to get abs. If you want to lose fat, you need to lose overall body fat that is not localized in one specific area. SOLUTION: Instead of trying to get abs by doing hundreds of crunches, try doing more resistance training. Resistance training is great because it adds lean muscle mass all over your body. This will help you get abs because it will raise your overall metabolism. The higher your metabolism, the more calories your body burns while active and at rest. So, resistance is a great addition in your effort for how to get abs! MISTAKE #2: Crash dieting. This is another mistake in the process of figuring out how to get abs. A lot of people who want to lose body fat try to do it by eating as little as possible, hoping that it will result in the loss of body fat. Crash dieting will make you lose weight in the short term, but will not help you permanently lose fat. There is a big difference! If you lose weight, that means that you are losing muscle mass, water weight, and maybe a little bit of fat. If you lose fat, then you are preserving your muscle mass and water weight, and dropping pure body fat. SOLUTION: Instead of crash dieting to get abs, try eating 4-6 small meals per day of high quality protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats. By eating these smaller meals, you help to regulate your blood sugar. If you eat a big meal, your blood sugar spikes very high. Then, your body releases insulin to stores the excess blood sugar as fat. If you eat these high quality foods and eat them in smaller portions, your blood sugar will stay more level. If you want to know how to get abs through diet, then this is a great tip! MISTAKE #3: Not concentrating on lowering body fat percentage. This is another big mistake when trying to learn how to get abs. Most people just focus on crash dieting and doing lots of crunches, thinking it will help them get abs. If you really want to get abs, you will focus on lowering your overall body fat. For men, it should be less than 10%. For women, less that 14%. SOLUTION: Combine total body strength training 2-3 times per week, high intensity cardio, and a great diet that follows the guidelines above. If you really want to figure out how to get abs, then these guidelines will get you there. To get abs, you need to be persistent, be prepared to work hard, and get ready to love the sexy abs that you will soon see in the mirror of you follow through! Mulch Your Spring Flower Bulbs in the Fall for a Beautiful Spring Display

By Michael McGroarty Flower bulbs need a good, long, winters sleep. Like some people we know, if they wake up before they are fully rested they get kind of cranky, and then they dont bloom well at all. Actually what happens is during a mild winter, the soil stays too warm and the bulbs begin to come out of dormancy early. They start to grow, and once the tips emerge above the soil line, they are subject to freezing if the temperatures dip back down below freezing. And thats usually what happens. After the bulbs have emerged, they freeze and then dont bloom at all, or if they do its a very sad display. Another reason this happens is because the bulbs are not planted deep enough. They may have been deep enough when you planted them, but as the soil goes through the freezing and thawing process, the bulbs can actually work their way up in the ground. One way to keep your flower bulbs sleeping longer, which will protect them from freezing, is to mulch the bed. In the fall just apply a 3-4 layer of well composted mulch. This layer of mulch will do a couple of things. It will maintain a higher moisture content in the soil, which is good as long as the soil isnt too soggy. Well composted mulch also adds valuable organic matter to the planting bed. Organic matter makes a great natural fertilizer. A 3-4 layer of mulch also acts as an insulator. It will keep the soil from freezing for a while, which is good because you dont want the bulbs going through a series of short cycles of freezing and thawing. Then when the temperatures drop below freezing and stay there for a while, the soil does eventually freeze. Then the mulch actually works in reverse and keeps the soil from thawing out too early. Keeping it in a frozen state is actually good because the bulbs remain dormant for a longer period of time. When they finally do wake up it is spring time, and hopefully by the time they emerge from the ground the danger of a hard freeze is past and they will not be damaged. If you can keep them from freezing, they will flower beautifully. The extra organic matter will help to nourish the bulbs when they are done blooming, and the cycle starts all over again. We also plant annual flowers in the same beds with our spring bulbs. By the time the danger of frost is past and its time to plant the annuals, the top of the bulbs have died back and are ready to be removed. The mulch that is added in the fall also helps to nourish the annual flowers, as well as improve the soil permanently. Any time you add well composted organic matter to your planting beds, you are bound to realize multiple benefits. The key words here are well composted. Fresh material is not good. The Origins of Halloween

By Ivy Mills So where did we get this controversial holiday from anyway? The word Halloween actually has deep roots within the Catholic church. Its sort of a corrupted version of All Hallows Eve or All Saints Night which was a festival held in honour of saints on November 1st. The ancient Celts celebrated Samhain (pronounced sow-en), their version of new years eve on October 31st. Through thousands of years of dilution, the two got mixed up. Halloween was brought to America with Irish immigrants the 1840′s. The Celtic people believed that certain turning points in time were magickal. It is still a well known saying that midnight is the witching hour. The turning of the year was considered particularly potent and the veil between the worlds was at its thinnest. This was considered a wonderful time to commune with the dead or tell your fortune. Because Samhain was considered an untime, the people believed that chaos reigned and would engage in outlandish behaviour and sport unusually high spirits. On this night, people would imitate fairies or spooks and run from house to house begging for treats. They would carry a turnip carved with a small face to hold a flame for light on their path. If the homeowner denied them, they would assail him with pranks and practical jokes. Here is probably the cause for trick or treat. The Celts would extinguish their home fires and make a journey to the centre of Ireland where a Druidic fire was lit by rubbing two pieces of wood together, later being blessed by the Druids. People would take a torch lit from this sacred fire and return home lighting their hearths once more. This was likely symbolic of the new year. Samhain was the last of the harvest festivals and anything left in the fields after this day was considered fairy food, unfit for human consumption. One of the favourite activities of the evening was divining ones future. Bobbing for apples was originally a form of marriage divination – who ever bit into an apple first, would be the first to marry in the new year. Another apple divination was to peel an apple – the longer the peel, the longer your life would last. And most cheerful of all was when each person would place a stone in the hearth ashes before going to bed – if your stone had been disturbed upon waking, you were destined to die within the year. According to Irish folklore, there was a prankster named Jack who tricked the Christian devil into climbing a tree. Jack then carved a cross into the wood trapping the devil. Jack made a deal that if the devil never tempted him again, he would be freed. After Jack died, he was not allowed into heaven because of his evil ways. When he turned to hell, the devil would not allow him in because of the trick Jack played. The devil did, however, give him a single ember to light his way in between the worlds. For fear of it burning out, Jack placed the ember inside of a turnip. Thus, we have the Jack OLantern. Irish immigrants switched from turnips to pumpkins when they arrived because in America, they were more plentiful. Halloween is considered a wonderful time to finish old projects, start new projects and contemplate life. The activities of the season include research or study, and crafts for the coming of Yule. I dont know about you, but I miss trick-or-treating! When Cheating Happens Is Saying Sorry Enough?

By Jaci Rae Dictionary.com defines cheating as: “To violate rules deliberately” and “To act dishonestly; practice fraud.” When someone “…violates rules” and “…acts dishonestly” people tend to stop trusting the person who caused the violation of trust. Trust is one of the most important aspects of any relationship, and a broken trust is hard to mend and certainly never forgotten. While men and women may occasionally glance at someone other than their loved one, most do not act on the impulse of visual stimulation, and it remains just a brief moment of looking at someone else. (That doesn’t make it right; it’s just a natural response to beauty. A brief glance is different than turning around to look JFI.) Cheating is the worst violation of trust in a relationship and is the cause of many break-ups. Why do people cheat? There are many reasons that are usually given, none of which excuse the dishonest act and erase the memory of it, nor are they valid excuses for lacking in character. Below are just a few of the reasons someone who cheats may give: I was bored. It just happened. I was in the wrong place and they were just there. I was drunk. It was a chemical attraction and I couldn’t fight it. It was just one time. It didn’t mean a thing. It wasn’t personal; it was strictly physical. All of these “reasons” do not excuse the violation, and they are an unconvincing justification for breaking a huge trust. There are two schools of thought held by people regarding this subject matter. I will call them Type Z and Type L. Type Z will say things like, Hey, it’s bad, but all guys cheat and most women think of it even if they don’t act on it. Anyone who says they haven’t cheated is lying. This group may tend to think strip clubs, pornography and gawking at another man or woman in the presence of their loved one is okay and it really shouldn’t bother their loved one. If it does bother them, then their partner needs to just get over it; and it’s their partners’ problem, not theirs. They usually like “Girls Gone Wild” (or videos of that nature) and think nothing of having the entire series for regular viewing. They are not generally close to their family or have many close friends. That is not to say they don’t love their family or interact with them or that they don’t have a bunch of superficial friends who, generally speaking, hold the same views as they do. While Type Z may brag about being great in bed, they often hold a higher opinion of their skills than their partner does. Then there is Type L. They say, Cheating is wrong and not all men or women cheat or even think of cheating. This group usually has stable relationships and is close to their family. Their friends are close knit and invest quality time together whenever possible. Type L tends to enjoy movies that do not have a lot of graphic sex scenes in them, and they are generally great caregivers in bed. Do you see the pattern? The most common mistake that men or women make once they find out their partner has cheated is to ignore the situation or pass it off as “It wasn’t a personal thing.” While the cheating partner may believe it wasn’t personal, it becomes personal because it deeply affects the non-cheating partner. Additionally, the cheating partner has exposed their “loved one” to life threatening diseases such as AIDS. When you love someone would you risk their life by exposing them to dangerous sexually transmitted diseases? Some of these diseases can be rampant, going without detection. One such STD is the Human Papillomavirus, more commonly known as “genital warts.” The U.S. Dept of Health stated the following: “Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the world…Many people infected with HPV have no symptoms. High-risk HPV may cause abnormal Pap smear results, and could lead to cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, anus, or penis.” Men and women that cheat have serious issues of insecurity they must address and tend to be adrenaline junkies in constant need for excitement. If you have found out your partner is or has cheated, several things need to be done and addressed immediately. The first is for your health concerns; you will need to be tested for various forms of STD including AIDS. Check with your health care professional about the frequency. Just because a condom may have been used does not mean you are completely safe. If your partner says to you, “The other person is safe,” don’t trust it! They have already lied to you and cheated, why would you trust them with your safety? After you have been tested, seek out counseling, whether or not you are going to stay with the offender. Your counselor will be able to help you determine whether or not “I’m sorry” will keep your relationship intact. While you may forgive your partner, sadly you will never forget what they did. If you decide to stay together, you will need to address this issue in counseling. It is imperative that you do to help avoid the “cheating” word being thrown about in future heated moments or bursts of anger. Many people believe that once a cheater, always a cheater, but that is something you’ll need to decide on your own. Here is something for you to think about: If a relationship has cheating in it, where will it end up? Many end up in the trash or divorce court. One of the worst mistakes the non-cheating partner can do is to blame themselves. You are not responsible for the other person’s actions or indiscretions. That is why counseling or seeking wise counsel is important. If you feel your partner has cheated, the best thing to do is ask. If you’ve spent some time with your partner, you may be able to read the signs right away. Don’t assume someone is cheating, because there may be other things going on in their life that have them distracted. However, don’t wait to ask if you have a nagging suspicion or it will eat you up inside and will eventually lead to hostility aimed at your partner. Ask now and then if you don’t feel you have gotten an honest answer, you might want to look into other methods that might help you get to the truth. Sadly, if a person has a predilection for cheating there is nothing the non-cheating person can do to stop them. It’s a choice they must make for themselves. A stable, happy relationship is what most people seek out, but they don’t come easily or without work. One of the keys to a happy relationship in the future is to learn about each other and develop deep communication skills. This will take practice, learning together and investing time on a regular basis with each other. Another key? Laughing together. Side note: The National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago published a survey in 2002 that stated 22 percent of men cheat. One more thing to think about: someone caught stealing is rarely sorry because they stole; they are only sorry because they were caught. Offer in Compromise Advice

By Kevin Stith An “offer in compromise” is an offer of monetary compromise made to the IRS (Internal Revenue Service), under special circumstances, by those who are incapable of paying their tax debts. It is advisable that a tax defaulter hires an attorney before starting any procedures related to an offer in compromise. However, this is not a legal requirement and a person can also file for an offer in compromise without hiring an attorney. When a person gets an inquiry call from the IRS about his or her financial details, then lying to them is illegal but making changes in the financial layout after telling them the truth is legal. A person should avail of an “offer in compromise” only if he/she is really entitled to it. If a person does not earn, has no assets that can be sold and is definitely incapable of paying off his/her tax liability even in the foreseeable future, then he/she can expect a favorable response to an application for an “offer in compromise.” There are many lawyers who offer to represent people in this kind of a situation but the applicant must make sure that a credible and reputed lawyer is hired for the purpose. The Wall Street Journal has quoted the executive director of IRS, Dale Hart that “firms which make ‘misleading claims’ often charge excessive fee for handling a client’s ‘offer in compromise.’” Proper care should be taken while filling out form 656 because the acceptance and rejection of this form by the IRS, among other factors, depends on the correctness and completion of this form. The IRS accepted only 17% of the total number of submitted forms in the year 2002. If an applicant is planning to get married, then a pre-nuptial agreement stating and proving the independence and separateness of the spouse’s wages will help in protecting the income of the spouse. Leasing a property instead of buying it will make it more secure if an applicant wants to benefit from “an offer in compromise.” Most attorneys who are experienced in this field can best explain the finer points and legal complications involved in an offer in compromise. New and Unusual Basil Herbs for 2007

By Barbara Adams Basil’s long, intriguing history is steeped in legend and folklore. Experts disagree on its origin, but many feel it evolved in Asia and Africa. Its thought that Alexander the Great brought it to ancient Greece around 356-323 B.C.E. From there, it may have made its way to England from India in the mid 1500s and came to the New World in the early 1600s. Grown in medieval gardens, many classic herbals have mentioned it over the years. Basil can make a wonderful specialty herb garden or home business cash crop for teas, local gourmet restaurants, making and selling a homemade pasta sauce, or sold fresh to other “foodie” customers. Basil is a member of the large mint family. Its botanically name is Ocimum basilicum. It was used as an embalming and preserving herb, and was found in ancient Egyptian mummies. Its embalming usage may be why it was also a symbol of mourning in Greece. There, it was called basilikon phuton, which means royal or kingly herb. There are more than 150 known varieties. These include: Lime-flavored basil from Thailand Red Temple Holy Basil from India Greek Columnar Basil that grows as a true perennial in many locations Magic Mountain Basil with extra lovely purple flowers Green Pepper Basil discovered in Mexico with a pronounced green pepper aroma Basil Ararat, rarely seen heirloom Clove Basil with an obvious clove aroma Sacred Basil, also with a clove scent Mrs. Burns Lemon Basil, a delicious heirloom from New Mexico Greek Basil, grows in gardens or containers to form an almost perfect compact ball Lettuce Leaved Green Basil with larger leaves and very good basil flavor Napoletano Bolloso Basil, has very, very large leaves with just a hint of anise flavor Sweet Dani Lemon Basil with very strong lemon fragrance Mexican Cinnamon Spice Basil with a special, spicy aroma Genovese Basil, large leaves and with a flavor many prefer over any other Barbara Adams Author: Micro Eco-Farming: Prospering from Backyard to Small Acreage in Partnership with the Earth (New World Publishing): Center for the Micro Eco-Farming Movement: http://www.MicroEcoFarming.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Barbara_Adams http://EzineArticles.com/?New-and-Unusual-Basil-Herbs-for-2007&id=393512 christmas bad credit cash advance commercial bonds no credit check ca dallas business cash advance how to make fast cash

How to Control the Urge to Splurge

By Anthony Stai I confess: I’m completely addicted to Pringles. My determination weakens every time I think about munching into one, hearing the crunch, and getting that first taste of its yummy flavor. Pure heaven. Although you don’t flip over chips, probably there’s another food that lures you into the refrigerator or the pantry cabinet. According to one study, 97% of women (compared to 68% of men) experience cravings on food. How do you control these urges that drag you in an intoxicated shape away from your diet plan and down into the swirling vortex of pleasure? I researched on the topic to give you expert advice on how to enjoy that art called eating without turning in into a feeding frenzy. Read on – and never again feel guilty about eating a chocolate chip cookie. Take Charge of Your Eating Habits. Try to control the number of food cravings you experience. It appears to be impossible for humans like us, but if you psyche yourself and develop fewer cravings, then slowly you’ll submit to fewer cravings. According to one study of nearly 500 women, researchers found that women who received a daily 1, 200 milligram calcium supplement reduced their number of premenstrual food cravings by 54%. To reach the same result by getting the needed calcium intake from food, rely on skim milk and yogurt. Sounds a bit difficult for all lactose intolerant? Try some calcium-fortified foods or juices like cheese and calcium-filled orange juices. If you don’t feel you can get sufficient calcium from food, make up the difference using a supplement of calcium carbonate or calcium citrate. How about something relaxing? When you’re anxious, the body produces more of the hormone cortisol, which may increase the amount of carbohydrates you want to eat. Sweets or carbohydrates temporarily increase our levels of serotonin, making us feel calm and relaxed. Thus, one way of helping curb your sweet tooth, rent some videos, text your funniest friends, or schedule a spa weekend. Why not have a bit of chocolate once in a while? When you begin including small amounts of these forbidden foods into your diet, a funny thing happens: You don’t crave them anymore. Distinguish specific cravings from hunger. Suppose you drive by a fast food outlet and all of a sudden, you develop a deep craving for French fries. Rather than rushing down the drive thru section, reassess your urge. Turn on your favorite music and switch your attention away from the fries idea. Suppose, on the other hand, you feel the need to satisfy not the urge but your hunger, select an apple pie or salad as a substitute. Cut Hundreds of Calories. Sure you can cut on hundreds of calories on what you eat every day! How? By making the appropriate choices on replacing high-calorie to low-calorie foods, such as cheese, creams, whole milk, butter, etc. Here are easy tricks to keep you cooking and eating minus the calories. When cooking, use nonstick pan to eliminate the use of butter and/or oil. Remove the fat from the meat. Remove the skin of chicken before serving. Use butter-flavored seasoning on vegetables instead of sprinkling butter. For casseroles, desserts and sauces, use evaporated skim milk (12 cal./tbsp.) instead of heavy cream (51 cal./tbsp.) Cook stews and other casseroles ahead of time. Refrigerate. Remove congealed fat before serving. Choose real orange (71 cal.) over an orange juice (90 cal./6 oz). For snacks, low-calorie fruits (cucumbers, asparagus, carrots, apples, pickles) are good replacements for crackers and breads. Use bottled chocolate extract for milk shakes instead of sweetened cocoa. Use two egg whites (34 cal.) for cakes instead of one egg (82 cal.). Choose diet margarine (50 cal.) instead of the regular margarine (100 cal.). Choose cereals with the least calories then add fresh fruits to be more nutritious. In parties, good substitutes for snacks are carrot strips, pickle slices, and raw mushroom caps. Drip away fats by cooking hamburgers on the rack. Avoid chips with dips. Trade Show 101

By Andy Keeler Every trade show presents its own unique challenges, but there are a number of features that are common to all trade shows. Whether you are attending a local Chamber of Commerce show or a well funded national show, there are a few general guidelines you can follow to make sure that you are well prepared and well equipped for your upcoming show. The goal of every trade show is to generate leads that you can hopefully turn into sales for your company. Although many trade shows allow you to purchase and sell products, this is generally not the point of trade shows. Each lead you generate should be carefully recorded in as much detail as possible. A stunning 80% of leads generated at trade shows are not followed up, which is absolutely astounding considering the amount of money companies are willing to invest in conventions or expos. Usually exhibitors purchase a trade show display to highlight their products and/or services. Many exhibitors make the mistake of cramming too much information into their display space, but when it comes to graphic design for trade shows, less is more. The key elements of your trade show display should be your company name, logo, and a few key pieces of information that you want them to remember. Attendees will be walking past hundreds or even thousands of booths at your show, so make sure your booth makes an impact quickly. Although many trade show booths are easy to set up and take down, many require skilled workers. Most larger trade shows have unionized work forces available for hire to offer you help with setting up and taking down your trade show display structure. Many exhibitors choose to ship their booth in advance to a warehouse near the convention center, where it will be managed by a group of workers. Generally speaking, the goal of trade shows is to generate profit for your company and maintain brand recognition. Both can be achieved with a high-quality trade show booth, dedicated booth staff, and lead gathering technology. At Tradeshowdirect, we specialize in providing high-quality trade show displays and booths to our customers across North America.
